TEDx Talks Bend
1939 Ensemble Performance
Portland instrumental duo 1939 Ensemble moves artfully between ominous dissonant noise and sharp bombastic beats to create random precision noise. Musicians Jose Medeles and David Coniglio use metal, wood, drums, vibes, beats and melody to create sound that not only crosses genres, but embraces and exploits them, inviting listeners in through the familiar and leaving them with something new to explore. Having shared the stage with the likes of Battles and Medeski, Martin & Wood, the two create instrumental songs that range from passive, ambient soundscapes to violent crescendos and use the spaces in between to build and deconstruct transient melodies within each piece. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
